World Accessible Holidays Achieves Disability Confident Employer Level 1 Status

Disability Confident Committed badge
We’re thrilled to announce that World Accessible Holidays has been awarded Disability Confident Employer Level 1 status with the Welsh Government – a significant milestone that reflects our unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive workplace.

This achievement isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about living our values every single day. As a company that specialises in accessible travel, we understand firsthand the importance of breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for everyone. Our own experiences with disability within our team have shaped not only the holidays we create but also the workplace culture we’ve built.

What This Means for Us

Achieving Level 1 status demonstrates our commitment to:
  • Recruiting and retaining disabled employees
  • Ensuring our workplace is accessible and inclusive – the ability to work from everywhere is important to us
  • Providing career development opportunities for all team members
  • Challenging attitudes and perceptions about disability
This recognition aligns perfectly with our mission. Just as we work tirelessly to ensure our clients can access the world through travel, we’re equally committed to ensuring talented individuals can access meaningful employment opportunities with us.

Looking Ahead: Our Journey to Level 3

We’re not stopping here. Our sights are firmly set on achieving Level 3 – Disability Confident Leader status. This ambitious goal reflects our desire to not just meet standards, but to lead by example in our industry and community.

Level 3 status will position us as a champion for disability inclusion, allowing us to mentor other businesses and share the insights we’ve gained from our journey.

Given that the employment gap for disabled people in Wales stands at 30.7 percentage points, we believe businesses like ours have a responsibility to lead positive change.

Why This Matters
In Wales, only 50.9% of disabled people aged 16-64 are in employment, compared to 81.6% of non-disabled people.  These statistics aren’t just numbers – they represent untapped talent, unfulfilled potential, and barriers that need breaking down. The figures are similar throughout the UK.

At World Accessible Holidays, we’ve seen firsthand how diverse perspectives and experiences strengthen our team and improve our service. Our team member Jasmine, who uses a power wheelchair, brings invaluable insights that help us better serve our clients. This is the power of inclusive employment – it benefits everyone.

Our Commitment Continues
This achievement is just the beginning. We’re committed to continuing our journey towards Level 3 status while maintaining the family-like, inclusive culture that makes our team special. After all, if we can help families create unforgettable accessible holidays around the world, we can certainly create an accessible, welcoming workplace right here in Wales and beyond.
