Tourist tax (also called a city tax, visitor levy, or accommodation tax) is a local charge set by cities, regions, or countries. It is usually paid directly to your accommodation at check-in or check-out — it is separate from your holiday price.
The amount varies depending on where you're travelling, the type of accommodation, its star rating, the time of year, and sometimes the length of stay. Some destinations cap the charge after a set number of nights.
Children are exempt in many destinations — the age threshold varies. Some countries (like Turkey and the Netherlands/Amsterdam) charge a percentage of the room rate rather than a flat fee, so we can't calculate an exact figure — but we'll flag it.
All figures are estimates. Final charges are always confirmed by the accommodation locally, as rates can change.
